Regulations
To the benefit of all, The Homewood Cemetery is vested with the responsibility and authority to advocate and promote consistent, reasonable and fair rules and regulations of the Cemetery. We strive first to serve our families as well as all visitors, funeral professionals, monument and vault dealers, employees and all others entering the Cemetery’s grounds or buildings.
A complete copy of the Rules and Regulations may be procured at the office of the cemetery.
- All visitors must enter the Cemetery through the gates; these will be opened at 8:00 AM. See hours for closings. Any person found on the grounds except during these hours will be considered a trespasser.
- Unseemly behavior, loitering, or other unbecoming conduct is strictly prohibited.
- Children under the age of sixteen years must be accompanied by an adult to be permitted within the Cemetery or buildings.
- No food or alcoholic beverages are permitted on the grounds except as authorized by the management.
- All persons are prohibited from gathering flowers, either wild or cultivated; or damaging trees, shrubs or plants; or defacing any monuments, buildings or other cemetery property.
- No firearms shall be permitted in the Cemetery, except in the case of military funerals or Memorial Day exercises or unless prior permission is received from management.
- Dogs are not permitted within the cemetery grounds except in vehicles.
- Receptacles are provided at convenient locations throughout the cemetery. The throwing of trash on any part of the grounds or buildings is prohibited.
- The maximum speed limit throughout the Cemetery is twenty (20) miles per hour. Conducting driving instructions is prohibited within The Homewood Cemetery.
- Gravestone rubbing is permitted only under the guidance of Homewood Cemetery staff.
- A permit must be obtained from the Cemetery for all filming and commercial photography. The photographing of funerals is prohibited.
- The peddling of flowers or plants, or soliciting the sale of any commodity within the Cemetery is prohibited.
- Signs or notices of advertisements of any kind are not permitted on Cemetery property unless placed by the Cemetery management.
- Management is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- All lots shall be held subject to the provisions of the charter granted by the Court of Common Pleas No. 1 of

- Lots are not permitted to be enclosed with a hedge, wall, curbing, fence or any other structure. For the safety of workmen using maintenance equipment, loose decorative stones or gravel are not permitted to be placed at or around the base of monuments or markers.
- Planting is not permitted in flush memorial sections.
- Live and artificial flowers are permitted year round. Artificial flowers must be in cemetery approved containers. Christmas (winter) decorations are permitted from November 15 to February 15. Flowers and decorations may be removed at the discretion of management as the necessity arrives.
- A lot owner shall have the right to plant and cultivate trees and shrubs in his/her lot with approval and under the supervision of management only after an endowment for the care of same has been established. If any tree or shrub becomes oversized or detrimental to adjacent lots, or roadways, management shall have the right to enter said lot and remove these trees and shrubs.
- A lot owner shall have the right to erect proper stones, monuments and other structures on the lot, but the same shall not be erected without authorization from management. Authorization shall not be issued until full plans and specifications of said structures shall have been submitted and approved by management. Management shall have full discretion in all matters relating to size, character, design, and materials being used.
- No lot shall be used for any purpose other than as a place for the burial of human remains.
- An Interment Order must be signed by the next of kin authorizing the cemetery to open and close the grave before any interment can be made.
- No fresh funeral flowers are permitted after services. Fresh flowers are permitted only in a cemetery approved vase. Arrangements dyed or otherwise preserved flowers, potted plants, photographs, wreaths, souvenirs, flags, or other articles are not permitted. If placed, they may be removed without notice and the Cemetery will not be responsible for the replacement or reimbursements for the value of such articles.
- The Cemetery reserves the right to remove any floral displays without notice when said displays are determined by the Cemetery to be unsightly, wilted or pose a threat to good general conditions within the building.
- The Cemetery shall make policies and procedures for owners and visitors including but not being limited to, hours of visitation, parking, dress and general conduct.
- All inscriptions, emblems, vases or urns must be approved by the Cemetery; if not approved by the Cemetery, they are subject to removal without notice.
- All work of every type, including inscriptions, openings and closings, performed in the Mausoleum shall be done by Cemetery employees at a reasonable charge determined by the Cemetery.
- All crypt and niche fronts will have the name of the deceased, the year of birth and death in uniform style in conformity to that designated for the Mausoleum, and no other lettering or designation will be permitted without specific approval of the Cemetery, except for an approved insignia or emblem of a recognized religious or fraternal sect.
- No entombment shall be permitted until the entire crypt is paid in full unless this rule is specifically exempted by the Cemetery.
